How to Fix a Bus Error for Power Vision PV-1 on Harley-Davidson Models
If you’re using a Dynojet Power Vision PV-1 on a J1850-equipped Harley-Davidson, you may have encountered a Bus Error message on your odometer. In some cases, this issue can trigger security shutdowns upon startup, cause gauges to cut out, or create problems when using the AutoTune function. While this problem only affects a small number of bikes, it can be frustrating when it occurs.
Fortunately, Dynojet has implemented a firmware update that resolves these issues (in most cases) by enabling Legacy Mode on the Power Vision PV-1. If you’re experiencing a Bus Error for Power Vision PV-1, follow the steps below to activate this fix and restore normal functionality.
How to Prevent Bus Error, Gauge Dropping & AutoTune Issues
- Connect your Power Vision PV-1 to your motorcycle with the key and kill switch in the “On” position.
- Navigate to Settings > Enter Code.
- Type in the code 1851 and press Save.
- Your Power Vision is now in Legacy Mode, preventing the Bus Error issue.
If you ever need to disable Legacy Mode, follow the same steps but enter the code 1850 instead.
Why Does This Issue Occur?
The Bus Error for Power Vision PV-1 seems to affect only a limited number of J1850-equipped Harley-Davidson models when the Power Vision is plugged in. Presumably due to increased traffic over the bike’s data bus. By activating Legacy Mode, the firmware adjusts how the Power Vision communicates with the bike’s ECM, typically preventing these errors.
