Flash Tuner Differences Explained: PV-1, PV-3, and PV-4 Compared
At Fuel Moto, we get a ton of questions about Dynojet Power Vision flash tuners. With several models on the market—PV-1 (OG), PV-3, and PV-4—it’s easy to get confused about the flash tuner differences. That’s why we’re here to explain each unit clearly and help you choose the right one for your bike.
All three flash tuners offer full tune capabilities. However, their interfaces and features differ, and each comes with unique advantages. Whether you’re a home user, remote tuner, or dyno tuning professional, this guide will give you clarity.
Let’s break it all down in the following video>>
Power Vision OG (PV-1): The Legacy Workhorse
The PV-1, also known as the OG, PV-1B, or PV-2B, has been around since 2012. It’s a large touchscreen device recognized across the tuning world.
Used heavily by dyno tuners and advanced users
Allows on-device mapping and adjustments
Compatible with Dynojet Power Core & earlier WinPV software for tune editing
- Integrates with the Dynojet dyno & automated tuning with Power Core software
- Fully supported and still in production
This unit is reliable, proven, and loaded with features. If you’re used to traditional touch navigation and doing tune work directly on-device, the OG is your go-to.
PV-3: Robust Simplicity with a Modern Display
Next up is the Power Vision 3 (PV-3). While it doesn’t feature a touchscreen, it uses a full-color TFT display with button navigation.
Offers the same tuning capabilities as the OG
Excellent visibility in sunlight
Often used for both Harley and off-road applications
Durable and user-friendly
Uses Dynojet Power Core tuning software
- Integrates with the Dynojet dyno & automated tuning with Power Core software
Despite the differences in screen and navigation, the PV-3 offers the same tunability as the OG. Many shops misunderstand this, but both devices are equally capable.
PV-4: Cloud-Connected and Future-Ready
The PV-4 is Dynojet’s newest generation tuner. Unlike its predecessors, this one connects through your smartphone (or Dynojet chassis dyno)
Fully cloud-based for tune delivery and updates
No email or USB needed—everything syncs with your Dynojet account
Works seamlessly with mobile apps for iOS and Android
- Uses Dynojet Power Core tuning software
- Fully integrated into the Dynojet dyno, plugs in via CAN cable, utilizes
automated dyno tuning software
Upon release in 2022, we were skeptical as we traditionally relied on USB files, email, and local storage. But after using the PV-4 daily, we now really prefer it for in-house and remote tuning. It’s incredibly fast, flexible, and convenient.
Say you’re on a ride and want to try a new map, want to take a data log, or want to view/monitor data—you can do so directly from your phone. That’s game-changing convenience.
What About Street Approved Tunes and File Types?
There’s a common misconception that PV-3 and PV-4 only support 50-state legal tunes while the OG allows unlocked off-road maps.
That’s false.
Dynojet does have an assortment of Street Legal approved tunes. However unless specified otherwise, Fuel Moto tunes for all three devices are for off-road use only with full adjustability. We provide the same level of tuning control regardless of the device when using Fuel Moto tunes.
All Devices = Same Performance Potential
From a tuning standpoint, all three flash tuners—PV-1, PV-3, and PV-4—can achieve identical results when used correctly. That includes:
AutoTune support
On-device diagnostics
Support for wideband kits like AutoTune Pro, Target Tune, and Smart Tune Pro
If you’re working with a dyno tuner, the software (Tuning Link) is compatible with all three. As long as your firmware and software are updated, you’ll have access to the same advanced features across the board.
PV-4 Licensing: A Major Upgrade
Another reason we prefer the PV-4? It’s not device-specific—it’s license and machine-specific. This eliminates the headache of license transfers. Plug in a PV-4 to any licensed bike, and it just works. That’s a huge timesaver in the shop and on the road.
Diagnostics and Service Tools
The PV-4 also goes beyond tuning. With the optional Dynojet license, you gain access to service tools like:
Running sensor diagnostics
Triggering fans or cruise control switches
Running compression tests
Some of these features are exclusive to the PV-4 app, but we expect future expansion for PV-3.
Don’t Forget to Keep Everything Updated
The #1 cause of flash tuner issues? Outdated firmware or software. Before troubleshooting, always check for updates.
PV-1 uses WinPV software
PV-3 and PV-4 use Dynojet Power Core and C3
PV-4 also works directly with your phone via Dynojet’s app
The cloud is your friend—embrace it!
Flash Tuner Differences Explained: Final Thoughts
When it comes to choosing between the Power Vision OG, PV-3, or PV-4, the decision really comes down to interface preference and workflow.
Prefer a touchscreen and direct device control? Go OG.
Want a simple, rugged, standalone device? Choose PV-3.
Crave cloud access, mobile integration, and seamless tune delivery? PV-4 is the way to go.
