The Fuel Moto Story starts long before the first shop opened. It begins at the racetrack, where performance, precision, and constant improvement shaped everything that would come later. Founder Jamie Long spent the 1990s immersed in road racing, learning firsthand how small changes could make a big difference. That mindset—always chasing better performance—became the foundation of Fuel Moto.
After college, Jamie stepped into dealership roles and quickly moved into management. While working at a small Honda dealership, he didn’t just manage operations—he modernized them. He introduced updated systems, built one of his first websites, and scaled parts sales from modest numbers into something much larger. That growth revealed an opportunity: the intersection of performance tuning, real technical support, and emerging e-commerce.
Taking the Leap and Building the Foundation
The turning point came down to family and timing. With a growing family and a clear vision, Jamie made the decision to step away from the dealership world and build something of his own. Fuel Moto officially launched in 2004, starting in a small, unconventional space—a former Pizza Hut Express.
From day one, the goal was clear: stock what you sell and support what you build. That approach separated Fuel Moto from competitors who relied heavily on drop shipping. As demand grew, the company expanded, moving from small shops to larger facilities until opening its current 20,000-square-foot headquarters in 2019.
Evolution, Adaptation, and Growth
Fuel Moto didn’t begin as a Harley-focused business. Early work centered on metric and sport bikes, which aligned with Jamie’s racing background. However, the 2008 recession shifted the market. Instead of resisting change, the company adapted. The team leaned into Harley-Davidson performance, identifying gaps in tuning and support that other businesses overlooked.
That decision reshaped Fuel Moto. Today, the majority of their work comes from across the country, not just local riders. Customers travel hundreds of miles for builds, dyno tuning, and performance packages. The team focuses on efficiency, often completing builds in just a couple of days while maintaining high attention to detail.
A Business Built on Family and Relationships
Family plays a central role in the Fuel Moto story. Jamie’s wife Cindy joined early on as the first employee, and their children grew up inside the business—literally. Over time, they became part of the team, alongside extended family and long-term staff members.
That close-knit environment extends to customers as well. Many riders return year after year, bringing multiple bikes and trusting the team for ongoing performance work. Relationships drive the business just as much as horsepower numbers do.
Lessons That Shaped the Fuel Moto Story
Growth didn’t happen by accident. Fuel Moto succeeded by staying adaptable, prioritizing honesty, and relying on real data. The team focuses on proven results, not hype. Dyno testing, real-world performance, and consistent processes guide every recommendation.
At its core, Fuel Moto’s story reflects a simple principle: evolve with the industry, stay grounded in real experience, and always deliver results that riders can feel on the road.
