Do I need to install the Power Vision CX on my vehicle?
You do not need to install it to tune your vehicle. It plugs into the vehicle’s ECM diagnostic connector and sends the tune directly to the ECM. Once the tune is flashed to the ECM you can remove it or leave it connected to view real-time data while the vehicle is running. If you want to view real-time data then you can install it using the supplied Velcro or using an accessory mount with AMPS pattern (30mm x 38mm, M4-0.7 thread).
Do I need to use a computer?
No. Re-flashing the vehicle’s ECM is accomplished all through the device. You may need to connect the supplied USB cable to a Windows PC to load a custom tune file onto the device or for any firmware updates.
I see you have a Power Commander V and also the Power Vision CX for my vehicle. Which one is better?
he Power Commander is a piggy-back device that must be installed to function. The Power Vision CX is a re-flash device that doesn’t need to be installed. Both will give you more performance and improved drive-ability by adjusting the fuel & ignition, however, the Power Vision CX allows tune changes that can only occur by re-flashing the ECM such as: lowering cooling fan turn on temp, disabling torque limiting functions, and revised drive-by-wire profiles. The Power Commander offers faster real-time tuning through the device whereas the Power Vision CX requires the ECM to be re-flashed after changes are made to the tune.
Can I use the Power Vision CX on multiple vehicles?
The Power Vision CX includes one vehicle lock, that means you can tune the vehicle that the device was originally “married to”. In the near future, a feature for retail and commercial customers to use single Power Vision CX on multiple vehicles will be available.
Why are there two types of tune files for the Power Vision CX?
The first type of tune file is an STK file, this is a copy of the original tune. The second type of tune file is a DJT, this is Dynojet’s modifications to the STK file.
Why do I need the two file types, DJT and STK files?
Our DJT files are really a subset of a STK file. The STK file is a complete tune, the DJT is just the portion where we have made changes. When you open or flash a DJT, you are also opening or flashing the STK file with the same compatibility.
Why am I prompted for a STK file when I open a DJT tune in C3?
The DJT file is really just a small portion of a complete STK tune file. When you open a DJT file, the software will look for a STK file of the same compatibility. Make sure to save your STK file and DJT file in the same directory.
Power Core is not seeing my Power Vision CX unit, how can I fix this?
First make sure that you are using the correct version of PowerCore software. This version will start with 1.10.xxxx.xxxx. If that is correct try holding down the top and bottom buttons on the face of the CX unit, while plugging in a USB cable that is connected to the computer. This will cause the CX unit to go into Boot mode, and Windows may install drivers that will resolve the issue. Just let Windows churn for a minute or two, then disconnect the CX unit, and reconnect normally.
How can I copy files to/from the Power Vision CX device?
The Power Vision CX is a Windows compatible drive. When the CX unit is plugged into a USB cable, Windows should assign a drive letter to the device. Windows File explorer can be used to copy files to/from the CX unit.
How many files can the Power Vision CX device hold?
The Power Vision CX can hold up to 32 individual files, either DJT or STK files. An STK file is much larger than a DJT file. There is a limited amount of memory on the CX unit, so it would hold 32 DJT files, but not 32 STK files.
Why am I prompted to download a definition file when I open a tune file in C3?
Every time you open a DJT or STK file, the C3 software will look for a definition file. The definition file tells C3 how to work with a given compatibility tune. You will need Internet access to download this file. If one has previously been downloaded, you will not be prompted again, unless we have updated the definition file. You can see a listing of downloaded definition files in C3 by clicking on Tools/View Loaded Definitions.
After flashing a tune, the engine will not start?
When flashing a tune completes, you should wait for the ECM to power down before attempting to start the engine. If you are experiencing this issue, flash the compatible STK file, and be certain to wait about 45 seconds before attempting to start the engine. Once the engine starts, you can then flash the DJT tune file you like.
How can I update the firmware on my Power Vision CX device?
You can use the new update client, link here
Why does my Power Vision CX not show tune files when connected to vehicle, but will when not connected to a vehicle?
When the Power Vision CX does not see an ECM of a vehicle and you go to the Flash Tune menu, it will show Files at the top of the screen. If the PVCX can see an ECM, it will show Vehicle Files. This is by design. If the PVCX can see an ECM, it will only show tunes that match the connected vehicle.
